Dear Philippines Angeles Mission Families:

Good Sabbath to you.  We hope your Christmas is great and you can share this day with loved ones. This letter is sent to update you on our weather situation. Tropical Storm Nina is now Super Typhoon Nina and will make landfall this evening (December 25th) well south of our mission.  The storm has grown into a formidable force but its projected path looks to take the main body of the typhoon through southern Luzon.  We now expect light to moderate rains and wind with minor flooding in low lying areas of the mission.

The safety of our missionaries is our first concern.  Several companionships in low lying areas have been moved to higher ground out of an abundance of caution.  As stated previously, every missionary lives in a structurally sound house and has an emergency backpack with 72 hours of food, water and other supplies.  Missionaries should also have an emergency supply of cash and a fully charged cell phone. Each companionship has been notify of the incoming storm and instructed to follow our emergency plan. As soon as the storm passes each missionary will contact their leaders to report their condition.  I will, in turn, notify parents of our situation via e-mail.

Most of our missionaries are experienced with typhoon safety precautions and act with wisdom and obedience.  They will stay in their houses during the worst of the storm and remain safe.  We expect the typhoon to clear our area by Tuesday morning.

It is unlikely this storm will do significant damage to our electrical or Internet infrastructure. But there may be some local power outages so your scheduled Christmas call could be impacted. If so, you will be able to reschedule for another time once services are restored. Also, you may receive your Monday email late from your missionary, possibly the next day.  Pleased be pateint.  We don't want to send any missionary out into a storm just to send and email.

Thank you for your prayers for safety.   We feel protected by heavenly intervention. If there are any further developments that would effect our missionaries, I will let you know.

Regards,

Dear Philippines Angeles Mission Families:

Merry Christmas!  We hope all is well with you and your family this holiday season.  Our Christmas celebration will be tempered a bit this year by an approaching tropical storm. Currently Tropical Storm Nina is headed toward the main Philippines island of Luzon.  It is expected to make landfall the evening of December 25th as a typhoon and pass to the south of our mission departing the area December 26th. It will likely bring moderate rains, wind and some flooding in the low lying areas of the mission.

We are closely monitoring the storm and may move a few missionaries in several low lying areas prior to the brunt of the storm coming near our mission. The safety of our missionaries is our first priority.  Every missionary lives in a structurally sound house and has a special backpack with 72 hours of food, water and other supplies.  Missionaries should also have an emergency supply of cash and a fully charged cell phone. As soon as the storm passes each missionary will contact their leaders to report their condition. Each companionship has been notify of the incoming storm and been asked to follow our emergency plan.

I have asked our missionaries to use wisdom and to stay in their houses during the worst of the storm. We are fortunate to have Senior Couple Missionaries in several of our mission zones who will also be watching over the missionaries.

If the storm compromises our electrical or Internet infrastructure, your scheduled Christmas call may be impacted. If so, you will be able to reschedule them to another time once services are restored. Also, you may receive your email late next Monday from your missionary. Be assured, we will be constantly monitoring the situation, and vigilently attending to the safety of the missionaries. We love each of them!

Join us as we pray for all in the Philippines who may be impacted by this storm. We ask for heavenly intervention for their safety and protection. If there are any further developments that would effect our missionaries, I will let you know.

Regards,
